2012 - Adding Value To London
"The 2012 games are a major catalyst for transforming East London and will deliver a lasting legacy of business opportunities, fantastic sporting facilities, improved transport links and thousands of new jobs and new homes for all Londoners."
Ken Livingstone - Former Mayor of London
London is proud to host the 2012 Olympic Games for an unprecedented third time with a third of the sporting events being held within 3 miles of Woodberry Park including the media centre where over 20,000 journalists will report to a global audience of up to three billion.
Just 18 minutes from Manor House, Stratford is undergoing a ground breaking regeneration in time for the 2012 Olympic Games, creating London's newest retail, residential and leisure hub. The £4 billion, 700 acre development will be the UK's most expansive urban regeneration projects of all time, emerging as home to Europe's largest urban shopping centre next to the biggest city park created in Europe for over 150 years.
The 1.9 million square foot Westfield Stratford shopping centre is the focal point of the area, with a magnificent three-level mall and a beautifully designed 24-hour 'lifestyle street' that fuses hundreds of designer, mainstream and edgy urban brands under one roof; art and culture will be represented by cultural collaborations, events and installation, while Stratford will also be one of the best-connected places in the UK, with a £1.2 billion redevelopment transport system that links Stratford via Eurostar to the St. Pancras terminal in 7 minutes, and to Paris and Brussels in just under 2 hours 15 minutes, as well as convenient underground bus links.
After the games, key buildings within the Olympic Park at Stratford will be refurbished for use as sporting venues and affordable housing, further redeveloping the deprived East End and bringing new jobs, opportunities and facilities to thousands of people.
