The site
A former girls' boarding school is now the landmark location for Scholars' Place, Berkeley's development in the heart of Wantage, offering the best of historic and contemporary design in one prestigious collection of homes. There is an outstanding building formerly used by the school which has now been sold, and new homes at Willow Court built in complementary style. Now also offering The Cloisters, a new and exciting phase of just two 3 bedroom semi-detached homes and three 5 bedroom detached homes along with Alma House which is a uniquely refurbished 3 bedroom house which has been sympathetically designed and boasts a landscaped courtyard garden along with 3 reception rooms.
The school was established in Wantage in 1873 and gained an excellent reputation for educating girls to high standard. Its relocation to new premises now allows discerning homebuyers to move to an ideal address within walking distance of the town centre.
Gabriel House was built c. 1860-1870 in Victorian Gothic style and became part of the school in 1914. As St Gabriel's, it was used for classrooms and dormitories and is fondly remembered by former pupils as "St Gabe's". Willow Court is named after one of the original buildings of the school, Willow House.
