London Planning Awards 2009/10

What House Awards 2009

The Awards, in their 28th year, are the most prestigious and longest established in the housebuilding industry. Royal Arsenal Riverside has won the Best Brownfield Development category 2009, for demonstrating 'a commitment to the inner city and urban renewal, or rural regeneration, including new build on derelict land and refurbishment of existing housing stock'. What the judges said: " Such is the quality of the regeneration of one of the largest concentrations of listed buildings, that it is now promoted by English Heritage as an exemplar of best practice to other historical sites in Malta, Spain and Estonia. What is particularly marked is the skill in which the seamless transition from the sympathetic restoration of historic buildings to confident modern architecture is handled. However, while the high quality of the architecture and its admirable sustainability credentials are indisputable, it is the benefit to a community of features such as the new riverside walk and transport links by the new DLR station and the Thames Clipper stop which capture the imagination and make this scheme gold standard".
