2012 Olympic Games and Regeneration
Just a short journey away from Caspian Wharf lies the site for the Olympic Park in Stratford, the fantastic setting for London's 2012 Olympic Games. Using the DLR it is just a 6 minute journey from Langdon Park for both the Olympics and the new Westfield shopping centre.
The Olympic Games and The Greater London Authority are regenerating the area in and around Caspian Wharf with the Greater London Authority contributing £925 million for the regeneration, infrastructure and facilities. The National Lottery are donating £2.2 billion to create the facilities to host the 2012 games. This in turn will leave a lasting legacy and facilities that will boast the economy and wealth of the area.
The Olympic Village will become a dynamic new centre for world class athletes, and is to be situated on the banks of the River Lea, close to Caspian Wharf. The Olympic Games are estimated to bring 10,500 Olympic athletes, 4,200 Paralympic athletes, 20,000 press and media and more than 9,000,000 million tickets estimated to be sold.
It has been forecast that the Olympic Games will contribute an additional £1.3 - 2.2 billion to London Tourism within a 10 year space.
After the Games the area will be transformed into one of the largest urban parks created in Europe for more than 150 years.
