Going green for Victory
The new apartments at Victory Pier will not only be stylish, they will also be green. We have the environment at heart and the apartments are being built with the future in mind.
All the apartments are being built to the Lifetime Homes standards and will achieve the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3, meaning greater energy efficiency and lower water consumption by residents.
And it is not just the apartments, Victory Pier will be an example of a truly sustainable development. High on the agenda are the site's 'green' values including open spaces, extensive landscaping and the promotion of 'green travel'.
Some of our initiatives include:
- Recycling facilities for residents and businesses
- A river wildlife area
- Bird boxes and bat bricks on site to encourage local species
- New green landscaped areas for residents and visitors alike
- A car club open to all residents, students and office staff based on site
- Forty bicycles for use by University of Kent students
- New cycle paths and cycle signage
- Contribution to enhanced bus services
- Contribution for the pedestrian accessibility in the local area and a contribution to accessibility in Gillingham Railway station.
During the construction process Berkeley First also aims to use locally sourced materials and local suppliers, whenever possible. For instance, we have been using concrete from a local source on the Medway City Estate
2 miles from Victory Pier.
We are also actively promoting local employment and have recently taken on new members of office staff who live in Medway. Hiring local construction workers is also being promoted during the tender process.
