South Quay Plaza, Tower Hamlets

Our goal at South Quay Plaza is to demonstrate how the next generation of tall buildings can be friendly and successful places where people from all backgrounds share a great quality of life.

A far-reaching community strategy has been developed for this site, drawing on a detailed review of best practice in high rise buildings. This strategy has influenced building design, estate management and public realm treatments, and will include a proactive approach to encouraging links between neighbours.

South Quay Plaza will include a series of generous and adaptable communal spaces where residents of all tenures can mix, meet and take part in a broad range of activities. At ground level there will be more public event spaces, a public art trail and a children's play area set among 2.5 acres of inviting landscaped gardens.

A dedicated community organiser will help establish social events and set up a community organisation and online networks. There will also be a small grants fund for resident-led initiatives and large scale annual events which establish new traditions for this part of Marsh Wall.
